“An intensely personal, genuine, and realistic journey of self-discovery and self-assertion. A tale of discovery about truth, love, hatred, and the relentlessness of humanity.”
–David B., Ellicott City, MD
“The writing is fun and smart and the characters are real.”
–R. Evans, Whidbey Island, WA, May 18, 2010
This was one of the most thought provoking novels that I have read in a long time…This author shows how race hatred causes unnecessary hurt, and never produces anything positive.
–A Kid’s Review, June 2, 2010
It’s a simple tale being told here, but the complexities of race, how we deal with it and how we fail to deal with it, make what could have been a cut-and-dried polemic into an engrossing story, and Ochieng manages a tricky balancing act: she calls out racist behavior, calls it what it is, without feeling compelled to demonize those who behave that way.

…The author took me for a ride and it was amazing. I can’t wait for her next novel.
–Marty C., Manassas, VA, June 10, 2010
…I normally don’t have much time to read for leisure any more, but I lost a good amount of sleep staying up too late over several nights to finish this, not wanting to put it down…Ms. Ochieng’s novel talks about things that perhaps we’re afraid to talk about. It will make you think, re-evaluate those feelings that you may have that you don’t say out loud…

…Juliette leaves you hanging on by your fingernails until the very end [of] her book, you will discover that there is no mistaking that “Tale of the Tigers” is a tale for optimists….
